On March 14, 15 and 16, 2001 I went along with the  Heavy Duty and Commercial Transport Class on their annual field trip.

We started at the Ritchie Brothers Auction and were greeted with rows and rows of equipment. They had well over 1,000 lots to move that day

A trip through two different Finning Caterpillar repair facilities followed the auction.

We ended up at the Highland Valley Copper Mine which is located close to Logan Lake BC. They sure go all out to show you around the facility and explain how everything works. Highly recommended!

The shot below left shows a view of a small part of one of one of the pits. At the bottom you can see the two "portable" crushers. It costs a couple of million bucks each time they move one of them.

The photos above are of the Big Iron in use today. Below we see Al and I posing with some of the smaller outdated equipment which is left out in the yard as sort of a museum display.
